This piece is written for Huqin, a family of chinese bowed-string instruments to play like a string quartet. The four bowed-string instruments, from the highest to the lowest are gaohu (高胡), erhu (二胡), zhonghu (中胡) and gehu (革胡) or cello in this performance. In a traditional Chinese piece, an ensemble usually play the same melody together in heterophony. On the contrary, this piece is wrote in a polyphonic texture. It is premiered by members of Hulala (大激弓) formed by former students of HKAPA.
