上星期的節目,今天才有閒心寫下感想。這些感想部份已經在星期六上課時發牢騷講了,現在只是寫下來。

Pascal Roge 彈奏 Ravel Piano Concerto + Poulenc Two Piano Concerto,好正,清脆利落,冇得頂。小交的伴奏雖然偶有失誤,但整體來說好生動。聽到好興奮,真是這半年來最難忘的音樂會。Poulenc Sinfonietta 其實不錯的,只是已經吃下了三首法國甜品,已經又甜又膩了。完了和一些不常見到的同學在翠華吹了一陣,難得。

星期四晚看Carmen,坦白說有點失望。Opera Hong Kong 前幾次演出:Faust, Samson et Delilah, Turandot, La Traviata 都有棒場,相比之下,反而今次演出比較弱。廖昌永的 Escamillo 和莫華倫的 Don Jose 其實都不錯,但女主 Annie Vavrille 的聲音有時 project 有時唔得,我是一個不懂唱歌的歡眾,都聽得出來,那真是不太好。余隆指揮的廣州交響樂團也顯得不夠活力,玩得頗為沉悶。

舞台設計,雖然龐大,但是色調沉悶,(幾乎全劇都是灰灰黑黑的,這真是想要的效果嗎?)佈景局限了視線,以及演員的走動。例如第一幕,一道天橋橫架在半空,天橋把舞台的畫面遮住了一大部份,感覺就像平時街邊見到的天橋那樣,很有壓迫感,一來視覺上並不美觀,二來煙廠的女工都要經由這條天橋,排著隊慢慢一個個從上面沿著樓梯走下來,費時失事,也沒有一群人放工一湧而出所應有的熱鬧效果。演員的走動都被中間的樓梯局限了。

和再前幾天看的話劇一比之下,令我覺得,好的佈景不需要複雜,不需要富麗堂皇。好的佈景可以有很多細微的趣味,即使不換景都可以讓觀眾不斷發現新意,有好多幻想空間,讓演員有更多發揮。差的佈景雖然用料多,建築得非常宏大,但不單局限了想像,還局限了演員的走動方向!

另外,劇中有很多 Recitative (宣敍調) 應該並不是比才作的。看過 Norton History 和 Wikipedia,都指出比才原本的版本是 Opera Comique,所有對白都是說出來的。 Bizet 英年早逝,37歲就死了,後來另一位作曲家 Ernest Guiraud 將這些法文的對白都配上音樂,變成了宣敘調。但可惜的是,這些音樂和比才的音樂並不相襯,比才的音樂本來充滿西班牙的熱情,那些宣敍調反而太過傳統風格,格格不入而且變得拖泥帶水。這是 Wikipedia 的原文:

Bizet’s original design of Carmen had dialogue in place of recitative. When the opera became popular, the musical community felt it would be more appreciated in the form of Grand Opera rather than Opera Comique. Bizet’s friend Ernest Guiraud wrote recitatives for the Vienna premiere performance in 1875, that were used up until the 1960s. They are today seen as damaging to the work as a whole. The recitatives destroyed Bizet’s careful pacing, and disrupted the process of characterization significantly. A new edition in 1964 edited by Fritz Oeser claimed to have restored Bizet’s original vision by including material previously cut from the premiere as well as restoring the dialogue. Unfortunately, Oeser did not realise that a great deal was cut by Bizet himself, and subsequently included several sections that were not required. He also made great changes to the stage directions and rewrote some of the libretto. Today, the only adequate score is a vocal score by Bizet himself, published in 1875. There is still no accurate full score, and each production is judged on the skills of the conductor in choosing a score.

這次演出場刊之中,並沒有注明到底用的是那個版本。我相信演出單位並不會不知用宣敍調的弊處。會不會是因為:如果全部對白要用法文說出來,反而對於中國人來說更加難?反而唱出來,可以避免了語言上的難度?這我並不懂,以上純屬憶測。假如讀者你知道箇中原因,務請指出。

看了之後,我甚至有點懷疑,會不會 Carmen 這個歌劇本身並不是傳說中那樣精采呢?於是回家第二天又看了 Levine 指揮 Metropolitan Opera 的版本。(Baltsa, Carmen; Carreras, Don Jose) 發現香港版原來服裝、群戲的排位等等,很多都是參考 Metropolitan 的,但是學不足。Metropolitan 用的是 Opera Comique 版本,對白是說出來的,劇情去得快得多。Orchestra 玩得非常精采,簡直令人熱血沸騰。看了這個版本,令我完全改觀,確信 Carmen 是十九世紀法國最偉大的歌劇,當之無愧!

當然我不應該把香港的演出和世界級的演出比較,只是希望 Opera Hong Kong 的演出能一次比一次好,讓更多人欣賞歌劇!

    上星期日的獅子山下講一個大學音樂系畢業生(是真人真事嗎?)因為經濟問題,而要去殯儀館吹嗩吶,道出社會對殯儀館工作的一些偏見。拍得很好,殯儀館的場景是真實的,對音樂的描述也很專重。最難得的,竟然有粵劇老倌阮兆輝、尹飛燕參與演出!

  • 新加坡小提琴手施恩溢因服兵役無法往美國進修

    相比之下,香港不用服兵役幸福多了。年青的兩年時間,對於演奏家的發展可是非常重要啊!為了當兵完全停止練習兩年,一個本來可能變成一等天才的,也會變成二等庸才!

      This year’s Carmen is a revival of a production of Toulouse Theater du Capitol in France. The recitatives are quite bothering, but the opéra comique version is quite long as the French dialogues are long and there are lengthier songs.

      So is the set design, etc. is following the original design of Toulouse Theater du Capitol? But this set design is indeed quite disappointing! While as the costumes are indeed quite similar to Metropolitan, don’t know if they have taken reference from the other productions?

      And the songs are already shorter than opera comique version? But still it seems slow paced and boring … the pace of Metropolitan I’ve watched in DVD seems to have a much faster pace… is it just my psychological illusion?
